The combined hardware and software platform m.LBSP allows a cellular system operator to offer subscribers VA services, using information about the current geographic coordinates of a mobile terminal. The geographic coordinates are calculated on the basis of characteristics of the base station servicing the terminal. There is a capability to determine coordinates more precisely, using information about the location of the network stations nearest to the terminal (if data are available from a SIM Toolkit applet). |

The SIM Toolkit applet (it is available on the terminal) receives information about the identifiers of the base stations nearest to the terminal and about their signal levels. The received data and the information about base station features obtained from the base station database are used to calculate the coordinates of the mobile terminal. Service providers access the m.LBSP via a special-purpose secure interface. The platform can interact with LBS platforms from other operators, thus supporting LBS services for terminals in roaming mode.. The additionally offered m.Locator mapping/tracking application is a ready-made solution for use by subscribers and corporate clients. |
